Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) – Accurate Soil Profiling Across New Zealand
Get an accurate and detailed representation of soil conditions with Geocivil’s CPT (Cone Penetration Testing) rigs. Geocivil was the first company to introduce IANZ-accredited CPT technology in New Zealand, and we continue to lead the industry by providing high-quality, reliable data you can count on for your geotechnical projects.
Our CPT operations are among the few in New Zealand to have earned IANZ accreditation, ensuring that our data meets the highest standards of accuracy and precision. Whether you’re conducting site investigations for infrastructure, construction, or development projects, Geocivil’s modern CPT equipment and experienced team are here to support your success.
State-of-the-Art Equipment for Challenging Sites
Our CPT rigs are designed to access sites with limited working space and challenging conditions. The rigs feature a compact design and quick setup, which reduces downtime and costs, providing you with efficient and cost-effective solutions.
We tailor our testing to match the ground conditions:
- Sensitive cones are used for soft soil profiles.
- Robust, high-capacity cones are utilised where dense or gravelly soils are present, ensuring the best results in any environment.
Our rigs employ centrally mounted push rams, which use the rig’s entire mass as reactive force, requiring less ground anchoring. The rigs are also equipped with two types of soil anchors:
- A large diameter anchor for soft soils such as clays, silts, and sands.
- A continuous flight anchor for dense, gravelly conditions.
This flexibility ensures minimal anchoring failure during soundings, providing accurate data with reduced operational risks.
Pushtube Sampling – Get the Data You Need
Our pushtube sampling capability allows for disturbed and undisturbed samples up to 66mm, ensuring you have the data needed to fully understand the soil conditions at your site.
Our CPT Rigs:
Christchurch – CPT1: LWC100 “Tiny”
- Rubber track mounted with retractable tracks (down to 800mm wide).
- Lightweight – Less than 1.8 tons fully loaded.
- Compact design – Total operational area is only 2.6m x 1.7m.
- Push tube sampling capable.
Whangārei – CPT2: LWC200 “Bessy”
- Rubber track mounted – 1.3m track width.
- 3.2 ton mass – Less anchoring required.
- Push tube sampling capable.
- 20-ton push capacity for handling more challenging ground conditions.
Complimentary Services
To further support your project, we offer additional services alongside our CPT operations:
- Hand Auger: A manual drilling technique for soil investigations and sampling.
- Scale Penetrometer: For quick, on-site soil strength testing.
